Drill, known as Step, or Stomp depending on where one is from, is a unique form of dance that includes a blend of precision drills , acrobatics, atheltics, chanting, rhyme, and use of props that make the competitons a real challenge to participating teams and a thrill to those watching the action. The styles of each team can be very different, but there is no question that all of the performances are high-energy and extremely visual. Drill's popularity is on the rise and after watching it, you will know why.

MISSION STATEMENT

The FUSION DRILL TEAM & DRUM CORP. is a youth initiated, non-profit neighborhood organization. The specific activity and purpose for which this group has become organized is to offer another avenue to prevent substance abuse. The underlying themes of the organization are self-discipline, leadership, and teamwork. This group is organized to develop and maintain a competitive quality drill team.

In addition to the primary purpose of the group, we have daily instruction and practice in the art and science of military, parade drill and march. There will be other educational and recreational activities, training and instruction. These supplemental activities will promote a stronger sense of self, a greater sense of community and foster team spirit and togetherness. Recreational activities such as swimming, team sports, field trips and cookouts will be an intregal part of the program. Included will also be counseling, guidance and awareness on topics such as teen pregnancy, drugs, and alcohol, violence, guns, conflict resolution, and anger management. Leadership, self-control and discipline are all geared to broaden horizons and provide cultural enrichment for youngsters as individual and as a group.

At this time the team consists of approximately eighty (80) young people ranging in age from 5-18. The participants are economically pressed or financially disadvantaged Afro-American and Hispanic. All the participants live in the low income West Rock section of Westville and Newhallville. It should be noted that young people from other neighborhoods and communities are openly invited to be a part of the team.
